As the shoemaker grew older, he couldn't make as many shoes, leading his family into increasing poverty. With the remaining money enough to buy only one piece of leather, he hoped the shoes made from it would fetch a good price, allowing him to have a decent Christmas meal. With worries on his mind, the old shoemaker fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, he woke up to find the shoes on his workbench completely finished and crafted with precision. A customer quickly entered the shop, immediately drawn to the exquisite leather shoes and offering a price higher than usual because he loved the shoes so much! The shoemaker used this money to buy more leather for additional shoes, cutting and placing them on his work table before returning to his room to sleep. The next morning, these materials had transformed into beautiful shoes.
One evening shortly before Christmas, the shoemaker said to his wife, 'Why don't we stay up tonight and see who is helping us?' Agreeing, they hid in a corner of the room and saw two little elves swiftly and skillfully making shoes before running away.
The next morning, his wife said, 'These little elves have made us wealthy. We must express our gratitude to them. Running around without clothes, they must be freezing.' She decided to make some clothes to thank them, and the shoemaker crafted a pair of shoes for each elf. The next evening, the couple saw the elves happily trying on the beautiful clothes and shoes. Afterward, they danced out the door and never returned, but the shoemaker's business flourished in the days to come.

在聖誕節前不久的一天晚上，鞋匠對他的妻子說：「我們今晚為什麼不熬夜，看看是誰向我們伸出了援助之手」他的妻子同意後，兩人躲在房間的一角，看到兩個小精靈正在快速靈活地製作鞋子，完成後就逃走了。
第二天早上，他的妻子說：「這些小精靈讓我們變得富有，我們必須向他們表示感謝，他們光著身子跑來跑去鐵定凍僵了」她想做些衣服來謝謝他們，鞋匠為他們每隻精靈都做了一雙鞋。隔天晚上，這對夫婦看到精靈們高興地試穿了漂亮的小衣服、小鞋子，之後他們跳出家門，再也沒有回來，但鞋匠的生意卻在日後蒸蒸日上。
